Celestial Park

The landscaped hub every path runs through, holding the park's best coaster, its strangest carousel and most of its good food.

Celestial Park is the ground floor of the whole park — you enter into it, you cross it to reach every world, and you leave through it. It is built as a garden rather than a main street: fountains, water channels, planted terraces, bridges, and the Chronos portal structure at the center with gateways leading off to the four themed worlds. The scale is deliberately open, which makes it the one part of Epic Universe that does not feel crowded even when the park is full.

It is not a thoroughfare, and treating it as one is the most common planning error here. Stardust Racers, a dual-track launch coaster that races two trains against each other over the top of the hub, is the best ride in the park and it lives out here in the open. The Constellation Carousel does something no other carousel does, with vehicles that rise and rotate under you. The interactive fountain area draws children who have run out of patience for queues.

The dining is the other reason to stay. Atlantic and The Blue Dragon are the two sit-down restaurants worth a reservation, Oak & Star Tavern handles a fast group meal better than anything behind a portal, and the bars out here are the only place in the park to sit down with a drink and actually see something. If you plan one meal at Epic Universe, plan it in Celestial Park.

Celestial Park tips

  • Ride Stardust Racers at night. It runs over open, lit ground with no tunnel to hide the layout, and the difference between a midday lap and a 9 PM lap is larger here than on any other coaster at Universal Orlando.
  • Do the hub last, not first. Everyone arrives, looks at the fountains for ninety seconds and runs for a portal. Celestial Park is at its emptiest and its best in the final two hours.
  • The two sit-down restaurants take reservations and both fill on busy days. Book before you arrive rather than trying to walk up at 1 PM.
  • Every world transfer routes through here, so plan your day as a set of spokes and accept the crossings rather than trying to invent a shortcut. There is not one.

Stardust Racers

A dual-track launch coaster that races two trains against each other over the top of Celestial Park, and the best ride in the park.

Stardust Racers is a racing coaster: two tracks, two trains, launched in sequence and then run against each other over and around the hub. It is the fastest and tallest thing at Epic Universe, and unusually for a modern headliner it hides nothing — the whole layout sits out in the open above Celestial Park where you can watch it from the path before you commit.

Tips for Stardust Racers
  • Ride it at night. This is the single most valuable timing tip in the park — the coaster runs over lit open ground and the difference between a noon lap and a 9 PM lap is enormous.
  • Ride both tracks. They are not mirror images and the sequencing differs, so a rider who has only done one side has only half the ride.
  • Take it at rope drop if SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is gated to a later entry slot. It is fifty yards inside the entrance and the morning crowd sprints straight past it.
  • Use the test seat by the entrance before you join the queue. The restraints are tighter across the shoulders than on Universal's older coasters, and finding out at the platform costs you the whole wait.
  • Everything loose leaves your pockets. Free lockers are provided at the entrance and enforcement at the platform is strict — there is no seat pocket and no forgiveness.

The interactive fountain area in the middle of Celestial Park, and the best free thing in the park for a child who is finished with queues.

Astronomica is the interactive water feature at the heart of Celestial Park — a set of fountains and jets that respond to being touched, blocked and played with rather than simply running on a timer. It is not an attraction in the sense of having a queue or a vehicle, and it is one of the more useful things in the park.

Tips for Astronomica
  • Bring a spare shirt for younger children if you are anywhere near this in the afternoon. It is not a full water play area, but nobody stays dry either.
  • Use it as the reward between two world crossings rather than as a destination. It sits exactly where your day already routes you.
  • It looks completely different lit at night, and the evening crowd here is thinner because the children have gone. It is worth a second look on your way out.
