Production Central

The entrance area and soundstage district, holding the park's only outdoor coaster and its loudest screen ride.

Roller coaster · 2 min · Express

A 51-inch X-Car coaster with a vertical lift, a non-inverting loop and a soundtrack you pick yourself from a keypad in the restraint.

Rip Ride Rockit opened in 2009 and is the tallest, loudest and most exposed thing at Universal Studios Florida. It is a Maurer X-Car coaster, which means individual cars with pivoting seats rather than a conventional train, and the ride hardware is why it feels different from anything at Disney: the seats are wide, the restraint is a lap bar with an over-the-shoulder harness, and the track uses shapes that a standard coaster train physically cannot take.

Tips for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
  • Use the single rider line. It is the best on the resort along with Revenge of the Mummy, and because the cars seat two per row the singles queue moves almost continuously.
  • Ride it after dark. The queue collapses in the last two hours, the lift-hill view over Orlando is worth having, and the ride itself is less punishing without the heat.
  • There is a hidden track menu: hold the logo button on the keypad for several seconds and enter a three-digit number to reach songs that are not on the main list. Nobody will stop you.
  • Use the test seat outside the entrance if the harness is a question. This is the tightest restraint in the park and being turned away at the platform is a bad way to find out.
  • Everything loose goes in a locker before you board, including phones and glasses cases. Travel light or leave your bag with somebody outside; the locker bank is a bigger time sink than the ride.

Dark ride · 4½ min · Express

A motion-base vehicle thrown through four and a half minutes of 3D robot combat, and the most aggressive screen ride in the park.

Transformers uses the same ride system as Islands of Adventure's Spider-Man: a motion-base vehicle on a track that moves through a series of rooms, alternating between physical sets and enormous 3D screens, with the vehicle's own motion synchronised to what is happening on screen. When it works — and here it works — you cannot tell where the built set ends and the projection begins.

Tips for TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D
  • Middle seats take substantially less punishment than the outer two in each row. Ask at the load platform if motion is a concern; the team will place you.
  • The single rider line here is genuinely good and frequently runs at a quarter of standby, because the vehicles seat twelve and gaps appear constantly.
  • Do not ride this in the same hour as The Simpsons Ride or Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. Three screen rides in quick succession is how people lose an afternoon.
  • Front row gives the cleanest 3D alignment. If you have ridden before and found the effect blurry from the back, that is why.
  • It runs in the dark and air conditioned throughout, which makes it a reasonable choice in the worst heat of the afternoon if motion is not an issue for you.

Transformers Character Meet

Any height

Character meet · 5 min

Full-height walking Transformers characters that meet outside the ride building, and the most impressive costumes at Universal Orlando.

Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron appear on a rotation outside the Transformers building, and the costumes are the reason to stop. They are enormous, mechanically articulated, and the performers inside them do a genuinely good job of moving like something that is not a person in a suit.

Tips for Transformers Character Meet
  • Check the times in the app rather than hoping. The rotation is scheduled and the gaps between appearances are long.
  • Watch two or three interactions before putting a small child in front of these. The scale catches people out.
  • Megatron gets the best lines and the shortest queue, because most families steer toward Optimus Prime.
  • There is no shade at the meeting spot. In summer this is a five-minute wait that feels like fifteen.

Minion Land

A bright Illumination district built along the front-left of the park, with two screen attractions and the park's best-designed quick-service.

Simulator · 5 min · Express

A 3D motion simulator that turns you into a Minion for five minutes, with stationary seating for anyone who wants the film without the throwing about.

Minion Mayhem opened in 2012 in what used to be the Jimmy Neutron theatre and it is a straightforward large-theatre motion simulator: rows of benches on a motion base facing a big 3D screen. Gru recruits you into his family, you are turned into a Minion, and things go wrong in the way they go wrong in these films.

Tips for Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
  • Ask for stationary seating if anyone in your group is under 40 inches or wary of the motion. It is a genuine option, it is at the back, and the film is identical.
  • There is a single rider line, and because the theatre seats in benches it moves faster than most people expect.
  • Do not ride this in sequence with Transformers or The Simpsons Ride. Space them out or you will discover the limit the hard way.
  • Sit toward the middle of the theatre rather than the extreme sides. The 3D alignment falls apart at the edges of the front rows.
  • The exit dance party is not skippable in practice with young children. Factor five extra minutes into the visit.

Interactive game · 6 min · Express

A walk-through shooting gallery on a moving walkway with no height requirement, no motion base and a score saved to your park ticket.

Villain-Con Minion Blast opened in 2023 in the building that held Shrek 4-D, and it is structurally unlike anything else at Universal Orlando. There is no vehicle. You stand on a slow-moving walkway holding a handheld blaster and shoot targets on screens as they pass, working through a series of rooms with a running score.

Tips for Illumination's Villain-Con Minion Blast
  • The posted wait overstates it. This loads continuously, so a 40-minute board frequently clears in 20. Judge it by how far the queue physically extends rather than the number.
  • Scan the same park ticket on a second run. Scores accumulate and the leaderboard is the main reason to do it twice.
  • Hold the trigger down rather than aiming. The scoring rewards volume of fire, not accuracy, and children work this out faster than adults do.
  • This is the best attraction in the park for a guest who cannot transfer out of a wheelchair, and staff are used to boarding chairs onto the belt. Just say so at the entrance.
  • It is very loud and very bright end to end. For a noise-sensitive child, bring ear defenders rather than assuming a no-height-requirement attraction is a gentle one.

Gru and the Minions Character Meet

Any height

Character meet · 5 min

Scheduled meets with Gru and the Minions in the middle of Minion Land, and the least intimidating character encounter in the park.

Gru and the Minions appear on a schedule in the plaza of Minion Land, and this is the character meet that works for the youngest guests. The Minion costumes sit at roughly a child's eye level rather than looming, and the performers play them physically rather than verbally.

Tips for Gru and the Minions Character Meet
  • Go in the last two hours of the day. The queue in the morning is inflated by everyone walking past on the way in.
  • The Minions are far less intimidating for a toddler than the Transformers characters in Production Central. Start here if your child is unsure.
  • Check the app for times. Appearances are scheduled with real gaps and standing hopefully in the plaza wastes an afternoon.
  • Shade in this plaza is minimal. Queue with a drink in hand in the middle of the day.

New York

A full-scale New York street set that hides the park's best coaster behind a facade and hosts the parade route.

Roller coaster · 3 min · Express

An indoor launch coaster hidden behind a New York facade, with real fire, a backwards launch and the best second half of any ride in the park.

Revenge of the Mummy opened in 2004 and is the best attraction at Universal Studios Florida. It starts as a dark ride — slow, atmospheric, heavy on animatronics and set dressing — and then turns into a launched roller coaster in the dark, and the transition is staged so that first-time riders genuinely do not see it coming.

Tips for Revenge of the Mummy
  • The single rider line is the most valuable queue at this resort. It commonly runs at a fifth of standby and the seat you get is no different.
  • Ride it early in a trip rather than late. It sets a bar that most of the rest of the park does not clear, and knowing that shapes how you spend the day.
  • Lockers before the queue are mandatory and the bank is slower than the ride. Come without a bag if you possibly can.
  • Back row for the strongest launch, front row for the best view of the fire effects and the animatronic sequence. Both are worth doing.
  • This is the most frightening ride in the park. A child who clears 48 inches and rides outdoor coasters happily can still be badly shaken by this, because the fear here is darkness and startle rather than height and speed.

The Blues Brothers Show

Any height

Show · 15 min

A short live band set on the Delancey Street corner, and the last survivor of the park's original street-entertainment programme.

Jake and Elwood arrive in the Bluesmobile on the Delancey Street corner in New York, play a set of soul and blues standards with a live band, and leave. It runs about fifteen minutes, several times a day, on a published schedule.

Tips for The Blues Brothers Show
  • Set times are listed under entertainment in the app rather than with the attractions, which is why most guests never see this.
  • Stand on the shaded side of Delancey Street. The corner is in full sun for most of the afternoon and there is no seating anywhere.
  • The performers stay in character before and after the set and will talk to you on the sidewalk.
  • It is loud enough to hear from the Finnegan's outdoor tables, which is the comfortable way to catch it in July.

Universal Mega Movie Parade

Any height

Parade · 25 min

The park's daytime parade, running a route through New York and Hollywood, and the thing most likely to wreck your walking plan.

The Mega Movie Parade launched in 2024 and runs a route through the backlot streets, taking in New York and Hollywood. It combines floats, walking performers and stilt work across a spread of Universal properties, and it runs about twenty-five minutes at any given viewing point.

Tips for Universal Mega Movie Parade
  • Check the parade time when you tap in and plan which side of the park to be on. Staging and clearing add roughly fifteen minutes to the published run time.
  • Ride during the parade if you are not watching. Waits at the front of the park drop noticeably for about half an hour.
  • Hollywood offers a better viewing angle than New York and fills later, because most guests claim a spot on the New York block by default.
  • Ask about accessible viewing areas well before the route is roped. They are not signposted and they fill early.

Everything in New York

1 attraction

San Francisco

A thin waterfront district that functions mostly as the walk from New York to Diagon Alley, with one screen ride and the best lagoon-side bar.

Simulator · 5 min · Express

A party bus driven past wraparound screens for five minutes, with no height requirement and the weakest payoff at Universal Orlando.

Fast & Furious – Supercharged opened in 2018 in the San Francisco waterfront buildings and is, by broad consensus, the weakest attraction at Universal Orlando. It puts you on a large party-bus vehicle which drives slowly into a tunnel of wraparound projection screens, and the screens do the work while the bus does very little.

Tips for Fast & Furious – Supercharged
  • Ride it when the board says fifteen minutes or fewer, and walk past otherwise. There is no version of this attraction that justifies an hour.
  • It is a good use of an Express Pass only if you already hold one and have run out of better options; do not buy Express with this in the calculation.
  • The air conditioning and the level boarding make it a genuine rest for a group with mixed mobility, which is the honest case for riding it at all.
  • It has no height requirement, which puts it on a very short list of things a preschooler can do here, though the noise level is high.
  • Skip the front of the vehicle. The side positions have a better angle on the wraparound screens than the ends do.

Diagon Alley — Universal Studios Florida

A London waterfront that hides a full wizarding high street behind a brick wall, and the reason most people buy a park-to-park ticket.

Roller coaster · 5 min · Express

A 42-inch coaster-and-screen hybrid running through the vaults under Gringotts, with the best-built queue in the park.

Escape from Gringotts opened with Diagon Alley in July 2014 and it is the reason the land exists. Mechanically it is a hybrid: a track-based ride vehicle that moves like a mild roller coaster, mounted on a rotating base, running past a mixture of enormous 3D screens and physical animatronic sets.

Tips for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
  • Ride standby the first time specifically to walk the banking hall. Express and single rider both skip most of it, and it is the single best room in this park.
  • Use single rider for repeats. It is well run and typically a third of standby, at the cost of the queue you have already seen.
  • Lockers before the queue are mandatory. The bank fills at peak and it is a genuine addition to your wait, so travel light.
  • The initial drop into the vaults is the part people are not ready for. Warn a nervous child about it specifically rather than about the ride in general.
  • Riding this in the first hour of Early Park Admission is the highest-value use of an on-site hotel booking at this resort.

Full guide to Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts →

Train · 4 min

A four-minute train between this park and Islands of Adventure that is a real attraction, shows different scenes each way, and needs a park-to-park ticket.

The Hogwarts Express connects King's Cross Station on the London waterfront here with Hogsmeade Station at Islands of Adventure. It is presented as transport and it is not: it is an attraction with a script, effects and a different show in each direction, and it happens to move you between two parks while it runs.

Tips for Hogwarts Express – King's Cross Station
  • You need a park-to-park ticket, and it is checked at the platform in both directions. There is no way to buy your way onto it at the station.
  • Ride it in both directions on the same day. The two shows are different and doing one is doing half of it.
  • Ride mid-morning rather than at opening or close. The platform queue is heaviest in the first and last hours when everyone is transferring between parks.
  • Stand at the back of your group at the platform 9¾ barrier to watch the effect work on the people in front of you. It reads better from behind than from inside it.
  • It boards level with no transfer, which makes it the easiest headliner here for a wheelchair user and one of very few attractions in this park with no barriers at all.

Full guide to Hogwarts Express – King's Cross Station →

Show · 6 min

A six-minute wand ceremony in a dim shop where one child per group is chosen, free, running every few minutes all day.

Ollivanders runs a short theatrical experience rather than a shop demonstration. Groups of around twenty-five are taken into a small dim room lined with wand boxes, a wandmaker selects one child from the group, and the wand chooses the wizard through a sequence of failed attempts with practical effects — boxes tumbling, wind, a light going out — before the right one works.

Tips for Ollivanders Wand Shop
  • Prepare a child for the possibility of not being chosen. One person per group is selected and disappointment is the most common outcome here.
  • Go early in the morning or after seven. The queue is outdoors and uncovered, and it is the least pleasant wait in the land at midday.
  • Buy the interactive wand rather than the standard one if you are buying at all. The spell medallions work in both Wizarding Worlds and the wand still works on your next trip.
  • You can walk into the shop without doing the ceremony. If you only want to buy a wand, skip the queue entirely.
  • The Diagon Alley location runs several rooms in parallel, so it is meaningfully faster than the Hogsmeade version at Islands of Adventure.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard

Any height

Show · 12 min

A puppet-staged retelling of two wizarding fairy tales on the Carkitt Market stage, running a few times an hour through the day.

Carkitt Market, the small square at the far end of Diagon Alley, has a stage that alternates between two short shows. This is the theatrical one: performers and large puppets staging The Tale of the Three Brothers and The Fountain of Fair Fortune, framed as a travelling troupe.

Tips for The Tales of Beedle the Bard
  • The two Carkitt Market shows alternate, so check the times board at the square rather than waiting for the one you want to come round again.
  • Stand on the Gringotts side of the square for shade in the afternoon; the opposite side is in full sun.
  • Do this while you are waiting for a Leaky Cauldron table rather than making a separate trip. It is a twelve-minute show, not a destination.
  • The Death figure in the Three Brothers segment is genuinely eerie for small children. Stand at the back if that is a concern.

Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees

Any height

Show · 15 min

A wizarding torch singer and her backing trio performing original big-band numbers on the Carkitt Market stage.

Celestina Warbeck is a singer mentioned in passing in the books, and Universal built her a full act: a lead performer in a sequinned gown, three backing vocalists called the Banshees, and a set of original songs written in a 1940s big-band style with wizarding lyrics.

Tips for Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees
  • Check the times board in Carkitt Market. The two shows alternate on the same stage and the gap between them is longer than you would guess.
  • Stand on the Gringotts side of the square for afternoon shade. The opposite side gets full sun and there is no seating anywhere.
  • Pair it with a drink from the Hopping Pot, which is a few steps from the stage and lets you watch from the edge of the crowd.
  • It works well for guests with partial hearing loss because it is amplified singing rather than spoken dialogue.

Knockturn Alley

Any height

Walkthrough · 10 min

A covered, deliberately dark side street off Diagon Alley with the best window displays in the park and almost nobody in it.

Knockturn Alley branches off the main run of Diagon Alley through a narrow gap and is fully roofed, unlit apart from lanterns, and kept at a temperature noticeably below the rest of the land. It contains Borgin and Burkes, a shop of cursed objects, and a series of window displays that repay slow looking.

Tips for Knockturn Alley
  • This is the best heat refuge in this half of the park. Covered, air conditioned, dark and empty at almost any hour.
  • The interactive wand spells in here are the best ones in Diagon Alley because the effects read properly against the darkness.
  • Give the window displays five slow minutes. The Borgin and Burkes windows have more detail per square foot than anything else at this park.
  • It is genuinely dark and the paving is uneven. Take it slowly with a stroller or a wheelchair, and use a phone torch if you want to read the labels.

Gringotts Money Exchange

Any height

Show · 5 min

A small bank room where an animatronic goblin argues with guests, free, and better than several rides in this park.

Beside the entrance to Gringotts sits a small currency-exchange room with a full-size animatronic goblin behind the counter. He looks at you, responds to what you say, and is comprehensively unimpressed by all of it. The performer voicing him works live, which is why the interaction lands.

Tips for Gringotts Money Exchange
  • Talk to him. He responds live, and standing there taking a photo gets you nothing that a photo of the room would not.
  • The exchanged bank notes are legal tender across Universal Orlando, so if you change more than you keep as a souvenir you can spend the rest.
  • The room is tiny and backs up badly at midday. Go first thing or after the evening rush.
  • Children who are nervous about the goblins in the Gringotts queue often find this one easier, because he is behind a counter and clearly comic.

Interactive Wand Experiences

Any height

Interactive game · 45 min

Bronze medallions across Diagon Alley that trigger window effects when you cast with an interactive wand, and the only souvenir here that keeps working.

An interactive wand bought at Ollivanders or in the shops works with medallions set into the pavement throughout Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley and the London waterfront, plus a separate set at Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure. Stand on the mark, make the specified motion, and something in the shop window in front of you happens.

Tips for Interactive Wand Experiences
  • Buy the interactive wand rather than the standard one. The price difference is small relative to what it does, and the standard wand does nothing at all.
  • The Knockturn Alley spells are the best. The effects are designed for darkness and they land properly in there.
  • Get the exact motion right rather than waving. The sensors read a specific gesture and small children usually need an adult holding their wrist for the first few.
  • Wand-keepers in robes patrol the alley and will teach a child the motion properly. Ask one rather than working it out from the map.
  • The wand carries over to Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, so on a park-to-park ticket you get two sets of locations for one purchase.

1 attraction

World Expo

A short 1960s world's fair district holding one attraction, and one of the best rides in the park.

Dark ride · 4½ min · Express

A competitive shooting dark ride from 2000 where two vehicles race the same track, the car spins when you are hit, and the score is announced to everyone.

Men in Black Alien Attack opened in 2000 and has aged remarkably well, largely because its central idea is competitive rather than technological. Two vehicles run the same track side by side through a New York overrun with aliens, each carrying six riders with mounted blasters, and every rider's shots feed a vehicle score displayed at the end.

Tips for MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack
  • Hold the trigger down constantly rather than aiming. The scoring rewards volume of fire heavily and this is the single biggest improvement most riders can make.
  • There is a very high-value target in the final room. Look up and forward at the end rather than at the aliens beside you.
  • The single rider line here is well run and routinely halves the wait, though you lose the shared score with your party.
  • The vehicle spins hard at the finish. If somebody in your group is already fragile from the simulators, do this before them rather than after.
  • Ride it twice if you enjoy the first one. Knowing where the high-value targets are roughly triples a competent score, which makes the second ride better than the first.

Springfield: Home of the Simpsons

A built-out block of the Simpsons' town with one big simulator, a spinner, and the most committed themed food in the park.

Simulator · 6 min · Express

A domed-screen simulator through a Springfield theme park, funny and well written, and the most reliable way to make yourself ill in Orlando.

The Simpsons Ride opened in 2008 in the building that held Back to the Future: The Ride, and it reuses the same format at a larger scale: motion-base vehicles suspended in front of an eighty-foot domed screen. The premise is a visit to Krustyland, a theme park built by Krusty the Clown, which promptly falls apart around you.

Tips for The Simpsons Ride
  • Ride it before lunch, not after. This is the single most reliable way to end a park day early in Orlando.
  • Back row is meaningfully milder than the front because you sit further from the dome. Ask at the load platform if it matters to you.
  • There is no single rider line and no stationary seating here, unlike Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. If the motion is a problem, the only option is not riding.
  • The queue video is genuinely funny and worth watching rather than scrolling through. It is written to the same standard as the ride.
  • Springfield is right outside, so this is the one ride here where eating immediately afterwards is a specific mistake rather than general advice.

Full guide to The Simpsons Ride →

Kang and Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl

Any height

Spinner · 1½ min · Express

A ninety-second hub-and-spoke spinner in the middle of Springfield with no height requirement, and one of very few rides here a preschooler can do.

Kang and Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl is a standard spinner: arms radiating from a central hub, two-person vehicles, a lever that raises and lowers you while the whole thing rotates. It arrived with the Springfield expansion in 2013 and is dressed as a flying saucer ride operated by the two aliens from the show's Halloween episodes.

Tips for Kang and Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl
  • Ride it because it has no height stick, not because it is good. It is a fairground spinner with excellent jokes written on it.
  • The queue is entirely uncovered and Springfield is a heat trap in the afternoon. Do this in the morning or after dark.
  • It rotates faster than most children's spinners. Do not ride it straight after The Simpsons Ride.
  • Do not spend an Express Pass here, and do not queue more than fifteen minutes for ninety seconds of ride.

Springfield Character Meet

Any height

Character meet · 5 min

Scheduled walkaround meets with Simpsons characters in the Springfield plaza, which is the only place to reliably find them.

Simpsons characters appear on a schedule in the Springfield plaza, usually near the Lard Lad statue or the Kwik-E-Mart. Which characters come out varies, and the rotation typically includes members of the family plus Krusty and Sideshow Bob.

Tips for Springfield Character Meet
  • Check the app for times. Appearances are scheduled with long gaps and standing in the plaza hoping is a wasted afternoon.
  • Queue near the Kwik-E-Mart rather than in the open plaza; there is at least some shade against the buildings.
  • This is one of the shortest character queues in the park, which makes it a good option at midday when everything else has backed up.
  • Fast Food Boulevard is a few steps away and air conditioned. Send half your party in to hold a table while the other half queues.

DreamWorks Land

The park's only genuinely small-child area, built in 2024 on the site of the old Woody Woodpecker's KidZone.

Roller coaster · 1 min · Express

A small family coaster at 36 inches, the lowest coaster requirement in the park and most children's first roller coaster.

Trolls Trollercoaster runs on the compact track that carried Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster for two decades, rethemed when DreamWorks Land opened in June 2024. It is a small Zierer-style family coaster: one lap, gentle dips, no inversions, about a minute end to end.

Tips for Trolls Trollercoaster
  • This is the lowest coaster height requirement in the park at 36 inches. If you are travelling with a child near that number, measure them before you build a day around it.
  • Ride first thing. The queue is uncovered and DreamWorks Land gets very hot by late morning.
  • Adults sit with their knees up in these cars. If you have knee or hip problems, it is a genuinely uncomfortable minute.
  • Rider switch is available, which matters here more than you would expect because the queue is slow relative to the ride length.
  • Do not spend an Express Pass on this. The queue rarely justifies it and the ride is sixty seconds long.

Po's Kung Fu Training Camp

Any height

Play area · 30 min

A Kung Fu Panda climbing and play structure with water elements, and the best place in the park to let a small child burn off an hour.

Po's Kung Fu Training Camp is a themed play structure with climbing elements, obstacles and water features, aimed at roughly the four-to-ten age band. It opened with DreamWorks Land in June 2024 on the ground the old KidZone play areas occupied.

Tips for Po's Kung Fu Training Camp
  • Bring a change of clothes and a towel. The water elements soak children rather than cooling them.
  • Adults cannot follow children onto most of the structure. Pick a viewing position with a sightline to the exits before you let them in.
  • Use this in the early afternoon when the ride queues elsewhere in the park are at their worst.
  • Seating for adults is limited and only partly shaded. Send one adult ahead to claim a bench while the other manages the queue for Trolls Trollercoaster.

Shrek's Swamp Meet

Any height

Character meet · 5 min

Scheduled meets with Shrek and Donkey on a built swamp set, and the best-staged character encounter in the park.

Shrek and Donkey meet on a constructed set dressed as the swamp from the films, complete with the outhouse and the sign. It is a proper environment rather than a backdrop, which puts it well ahead of the park's other character offerings on presentation.

Tips for Shrek's Swamp Meet
  • Check the times when you enter the land. Everything in DreamWorks Land runs on a schedule and arriving blind wastes half of it.
  • The swamp set is worth photographing on its own, and you can do that without queueing for the characters.
  • Queue early in a set rather than late; the last few groups before a break get a noticeably rushed interaction.
  • There is partial shade here, which is more than the Minion Land or Production Central meets offer.

DreamWorks Imagination Celebration

Any height

Stage show · 20 min

A short outdoor song-and-dance show with DreamWorks characters, pitched at preschoolers and running several times a day.

The stage show in DreamWorks Land runs several times a day and puts characters from Shrek, Trolls, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar through a twenty-minute song-and-dance set with audience participation. It is aimed at children under about eight and does not pretend otherwise.

Tips for DreamWorks Imagination Celebration
  • Check the schedule when you enter the land rather than wandering back later. Sets are spaced widely.
  • Shade in the viewing area is partial. Take the left-hand side in the afternoon, which catches the building shadow first.
  • Stand at the back with a noise-sensitive child. The volume at the front is genuinely high.
  • Pair it with the play area rather than treating it as a destination. It is twenty minutes, not an event.

A Sunset Boulevard street set holding the park's two best live shows, its oldest dark ride, and the lagoon-show viewing.

Show · 25 min · Express

A twenty-five minute two-hander about practical special effects that has run since 1990, is genuinely funny, and almost never fills.

The Horror Make-Up Show has been running since the park opened in 1990, which makes it the longest-running attraction here alongside E.T. Adventure. It is a live two-hander: a host and a make-up artist demonstrate practical special-effects techniques from Universal's horror films, with props, prosthetics and a lot of ad-libbing.

Tips for Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show
  • This is the most underused attraction in the park. Twenty-five minutes, air conditioned, almost never fills, and better than several of the rides.
  • Sit in the middle third. Close enough to see the prosthetic work on the table, far enough back that you will not be brought up on stage.
  • The performers vary and so does the show, because a large amount of it is improvised. Two visits on different days are not the same visit.
  • Two moments are engineered to startle. Sit near an aisle if you are bringing a child under about eight, so leaving is easy if it goes wrong.
  • Check the schedule and build it into the worst hour of the afternoon rather than treating it as something to do if there is time.

Stage show · 25 min · Express

A live stunt show fused to a moving LED wall, and the most technically impressive thing staged at Universal Orlando.

The Bourne Stuntacular opened in 2020 in the theatre that held Terminator 2: 3-D, and its central idea is that the boundary between a live performer and a screen image should be invisible. A huge LED wall runs the length of the stage and moves; performers run onto and off it, hand off to a filmed version of themselves mid-motion, and the audience genuinely cannot always tell which is which.

Tips for The Bourne Stuntacular
  • Sit in the middle third of the theatre. The screen effect is built for a straight-on angle and it visibly fails from the far sides.
  • The pyrotechnics are felt as much as heard. Consider ear defenders for a noise-sensitive child, and sit further back rather than closer.
  • The theatre almost never fills. Arriving ten minutes before a performance is enough on all but the busiest days.
  • It offers very little to a guest with significant vision loss, since the effect is entirely visual. The Horror Make-Up Show is the better choice in that case.
  • Pair it with the Horror Make-Up Show in the same afternoon. Both are cool, both are close together, and together they cover the two worst hours of the day.

Animal Actors on Location!

Any height

Show · 20 min · Express

A covered-amphitheatre show of trained animals performing film and television behaviours, and the safest twenty minutes in the park for a small child.

Animal Actors on Location is a live show in a covered amphitheatre in which dogs, birds, pigs and other trained animals perform the kinds of behaviours used in film and television work, introduced by a presenter who explains how each one is trained.

Tips for Animal Actors on Location!
  • Sit toward the front if you have a child who wants to be picked for the audience participation segments; the presenters choose from the first rows.
  • It is covered but not air conditioned, so it buys shade rather than cool. Pair it with the Horror Make-Up Show for the cold part.
  • Check the schedule in the app. Performances are spread across the day with long gaps between them.
  • This is the single most reliable attraction here for a child under 40 inches, and worth planning the afternoon around if you have one.

E.T. Adventure

34"86cm

Dark ride · 4½ min · Express

The last opening-day ride still running, a suspended flying-bicycle dark ride at 34 inches with the lowest height stick in the park.

E.T. Adventure opened with the park in June 1990 and is the only original opening-day ride still operating. It is a suspended dark ride: you sit on a bench built to look like a bicycle, hanging from an overhead track, and glide through a dark forest, a night flight over a city and finally E.T.'s home planet.

Tips for E.T. Adventure
  • Give your real first name at the boarding station. The personalised goodbye at the end is the entire point and it does not work with a nickname the machine cannot pronounce.
  • At 34 inches this is the lowest height requirement in the park, which makes it the anchor of the ride list for a family with a small child.
  • The forest section at the start is dark and the agents appear close. Warn a nervous child about that specifically; everything after it is gentle.
  • Boarding requires stepping up and swinging a leg over the seat, which is harder than the ride itself. Ask at the platform if that is a problem.
  • Ride it in the middle of the day. The queue runs through a cool dark forest set and the ride is air conditioned, which makes it a rest as well as an attraction.

Nighttime spectacular · 20 min

The nighttime lagoon show, running fountains, fireworks and projection to an orchestral score, and worth about twenty-five minutes of your evening.

CineSational is the park's nighttime show, staged on the central lagoon with fountains, water-screen projection, flame effects and fireworks set to an orchestral arrangement of Universal film scores. It launched in 2024 and runs on most nights the park is open late.

Tips for CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular
  • Watch from the San Francisco railings rather than Hollywood. Better angle, thinner crowd, faster exit.
  • Claim a spot 25 minutes ahead on a busy night, 10 on a quiet one. Longer than that and you have overpaid in time.
  • If you are skipping it, ride. Revenge of the Mummy and Transformers both fall dramatically while the whole park is at the water's edge.
  • There is a light spray on the front railing rows when the wind is onshore. Stand a row back if you are carrying a camera.
  • Ask a team member about accessible viewing well before the crowd forms. It exists, it is not signposted, and it fills.
